Surprises

I won’t BS myself by saying this week went as expected, or as well as expected. I can’t pin point one particular day that I could even call a “good” day, and up until Thursday was especially bad.

But there were a few surprises and occurrences I was proud of. On Thursday I made it to the ARC gym for a run at 8:30 in the morning. I ran for about 20 minutes and my average pace was probably around a 13:35 min/mile, but whatever, I was damn proud of conquering two issues that were holding me back. The fear of working out at a gym in public and an extreme lack of enthusiasm to get back into working out–especially running.

Another surprise was my weight. I’ll admit that stepping on the scale after two weeks of no exercise (besides walking) and high calorie eating was something I dreaded, yet was determined to see. After all, I can’t know how far I need to go if I don’t know how far back I’m starting. But to my intense surprise… I haven’t gained a pound since I first came here. Which is a big deal. Losing 15 pounds in literally a month is still going to be a huge challenge, but it does ease the burden somewhat to know that I can shoot for my original goal weight and not have to worry about any extra pounds I may have lugged on the way.

I hope for a much better week this week, and will build on the good things that have occurred at the end of last week.

My main challenge at the moment is coming up with a workout schedule. Before Thursday it was more or less pretty easy, to brainstorm as I had two days with 9am classes, but every other day pretty much was a 11am class. Thus it wouldn’t take too much effort to workout in the morning (my favorite time to work out). However, my schedule has changed radically since then. On Tuesday I have a 9am class that is pretty far away, so that’s a no brainer. But MW I have an 10 o’clock and on RF an 11 o’clock. The problem is that with the exception of Thursday, the classes I have later are all very far away. If I could figure out the bus schedule I could manage to fit in a morning workout before class. But this is the first week and chances are I won’t figure out the bus schedule this week.

So I figure for this week at least I will be stuck with some late afternoon workouts. Not fun, but better than nothing…?
