Read That Label Carefully

An important step in counting calories is to learn how to read a food label to identify the caloric content of foods and beverages, or to find the calorie count for the item using another method, such as using your computer.

The products you purchase at the store have a label on them called the Nutrition Facts label. Here you will find a great deal of information about the food’s nutritional content, including total number of calories per serving. The calories are located just below the thick black line and the words “Amount per serving”. It is important that you also note the serving size listing on the label, which is located at the top, just below the “Nutrition Facts” heading.

Additionally, food manufacturers, fast food restaurants, and other restaurant chains often provide the calorie information for their foods posted in the dining room, in a brochure, or on their Web site. Paying attention to these minor facts can be the determining factor in how fast you get rid of unwanted pounds.

Pretty good weekend.

This weekend was completely full of anxiety and stress for me.  I was depressed for most of it but it still was a pretty good weekend.  I did pretty good with my food and I exercised a whole lot.  I worked for 9 hours in the yard on Saturday and got a ton of landscaping finished.  I also ran 18 miles yesterday.  That run went really well except my foot/ankle is hurting a lot now and even more right after the run.  I will be taking it easy today and tomorrow.  I hope that this will be enough time to get my foot well.  I have two huge weeks of running coming up before I slow it down for my race on May 2nd.  I will post my running schedule in the morning.

Overall I feel pretty healthy and strong.  Oh yeah, the stone company fixed their machine and they are going to move my stone table today hopefully.  If they do, you will get to see the after pics of my fire pit area.  I can’t wait for you all to see them.  I am soooo exited about this part of my landscaping journey.

How to Burn Fat Without Cardio

So how much weight have you lost from running on a treadmill? How long did you have to run to get those results? Is it truly worth it to waste that much time on a piece of equipment?

Most people do not like the answers to these questions. So what is the true answer? What type of cardio actually works? The real answer is cardio with INTENSITY! If you’re going to do cardio and use up your free time to get results, make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck! To do this you need to make sure that your heart is pounding out of your chest! None of this steady state crap!

Running while reading a book or chatting with your friend next to you is NOT intense enough and you can’t expect to get any type of actual results from that type of cardio. That type of cardio is old news my friends!

Here’s a real life example, if you were to go into a big commercial gym around prime time (5pm), you will notice the amount of people that take over the cardio equipment. If you were to watch the same people for an entire year, I can guarantee you that these same people will still look exactly the same. Even though these people were in the gym 5-6 days a week, doing long bouts of cardio, working at a pace they thought was actually hard. The fact is, they were never working at a high enough intense rate. They were basically just moving, which will not get you any results.

If you’re looking to get lean and looking to lose weight you need to be intense. The results will follow! You need to get your heart rate to a maximum rate. What happens when you get your heart rate that high is the after burn effect. This means that your body takes a long period of time to get back to normal resting state. Your body burns extra calories though out this time for up to 48 hours! This causes results big time!

My bootcamp specializes in INTENSE cardio that makes your body burn calories at an accelerated rate for 48 hours! What you need to do is jack your intensity up with your cardio by doing high intensity intervals or other types of bodyweight training that will crank your heart rate up and make your heart pound out of your chest. It WILL get you results.

Get it Done Bootcamp focuses on workouts that get this done! Spots are filling fast so contact Get It Done Bootcamp now to get in on the result getting! Quit wasting your time with the same old boring cardio! Do something fun, join bootcamp and get results with others just like you!

Meet the woman who LOST weight during pregnancy

If you are a woman and have borne children, one of the things you dread about getting pregnant is the extra weight gained during those nine months.

However for 30-year-old Zoe Bisgrove, the experience was actually quite different. “As my bump grew, I kept on shrinking. By the time I was ready to give birth I had lost another four stone and I was the slimmest I’d ever been,” she told the Daily Mail.

Zoe was 20st 5lb in her 20s and had weight issues throughout. However when she broke her coccyx after a fall at the age of 27, she decided, she had to do something about her weight. She lost plenty of weight and took care of her diet as well avoiding foods like butter and cheese.

“I’m also working as a slimming consultant now, as I want to be an inspiration to other women who have struggled with their weight for so many years like I did,” she revealed.

Zoe has three children and since the last one was born she has maintained a healthy weight of 9st 7lb.

Cautionary note: You are advised not to diet during pregnancy and ensure you have a healthy weight gain as it helps in the proper growth of your baby.

Beverely Hills Diet Plan

California has always been at the forefront of new diets and one of the oldest diets to come from that State is the Beverly Hills Diet.

The diet is based on the idea that if you eat the right foods at the right time of the day, then you can lose weight. The diet plan extends for 6 weeks and the author claim that the diet is well balanced and nutritionally adequate. The authors of this diet claim that the reason we gain weight is because of two things- we eat at the wrong time and also eat the wrong foods. So the Beverly Hills Diet says -eat at a different time and eat what the diet says.

The Beverly Hills Diet says proteins go with proteins or fats, carbohydrates go with carbohydrates or fat and fruits go alone (what the authors fail to explain to a dumbo like me, is what are fruits? (Sounds confusing already?)

Ok so this is how you start.

For breakfast, eat a fruit and eat as much as you want. For the next hour, you cannot switch to another food. Then you follow the above regimen. However, if you eat a carbohydrate later in the day, then you cannot eat fruit for the rest of the day.

If you start the morning with a carbohydrate, then stay with carbohydrates, but you can change to proteins after 1 hour and then it is all protein for the rest of the day.

One is allowed to drink fruit juices and even wine is allowed. In addition, there is even more good news; alcohol can be consumed with carbohydrates and for those who have money, Champagne is allowed with all foods. The diet plan does give recipes that average about 1000-1200 calories/day.

And does one have to exercise with this diet. No, not compulsory. But if you have time, a treadmill, and feel like it, the choice is yours – so far all looks great.

So if you stick to this diet plan for 6 weeks, you can lose 10-15 pounds.

Weekly Weigh In

Starting Weight: 84.5kg (185.9lbs)

Last Week’s Weight:78.8kg (173.2lbs)

This Week’s Weight: 77.7kg (171 lbs)

This Week’s Loss: 1kg (2.2lbs)

Total Loss: 6.8kg (15 lbs)

Hip to Waist Ratio: 0.88

Waist: 91.5cm (36  inches)

Hips: 103.5cm (40.7 inches)

BMI: 25.37

Body Fat Last Week: 35.94%

Body Fat This Week: 35.29%

I had a great week this week.  Stuck to my Zone Diet for the past 5 days and lost 1kg! I am almost at the halfway point to my weight loss goal. Hopefully I will get there next week.

Exercise

Dogs got walked 3 times this week, which is again is not great.  I just can not get out of bed on Wednesday mornings and this morning it was raining.  I did two Kung Fu sessions and one kickboxing session and also did the CrossFit WOD on Monday, Wednesday and today, so I am pretty happy with the amount of exercise I am doing.

So, how did everyone else do this week?

How to succeed in weighing less

How about 25 lbs less? Recently, a client started working with my program and has lost that amount already. What is the secret? First, it wasn’t just the workout but rather the amount of calories consumed and the choice of where those calories came from that contributed to this loss.

Yes, it is true that from a mathematical point of view a calorie is a calorie. Eating fewer or more calories makes you lose or gain weight.  But from a scientific perspective, that is not the case. The calories from a chocolate bar compared to those from an apple are not the same. The ingredients make the difference.

The chocolate bar is a processed food, without the enzymes, vitamins and minerals that your metabolism needs to work efficiently. These same enzymes, vitamins and minerals are also the ones required for weight loss and for maintaining a youthful appearance. An apple has those ingredients–and even more vital components, as yet undiscovered–that are crucial for your optimum health.

Calories from sweets also affect your hormone levels, such as your cortisone production. High cortisone levels contribute to weight gain and fatigue. Stress—whether it’s due to the current economic situation, your relationship or from work–has the same effect.

Managing your stress won’t make you lose fat (sorry!) but the quality and quantity of calories as well as choosing foods that support your fat metabolism can make you a winner at the losing game.

Here are a few quick tips:

Latch onto a lemon. On a daily basis, squeeze into sparkling or still water, use the juice to make salad dressing or to perk up the flavor of vegetables or fruits. The juice from this citrus fruit aids in your body’s production of hydrochloric acid and bile.

Hydrochloric acid helps to break down nutrients making for better nutrient utilization by the body. Bile helps your body emulsify fat (and that’s a good thing!) Another food to eat regularly: Eggs. Sulfur-containing foods, such as our beloved old eggs, are fat emulsifiers. Eating two whole eggs per day not only aids in losing fat but also will help you reduce your LDL levels, as studies have found.

So you see, the strategies for losing 25 lbs can be simple and straightforward. For starters, choose your foods wisely. Even on the Biggest Loser you can see that it can be done.

Is it different for someone weighing 150 lbs to lose 25 lbs. vs. someone at 290 lbs. to lose 25 lbs.? Sure, but the underlying strategies stay the same.

Kind regards,

Stefan

The Power of Kale

It took me forever to try this vegetable. Although it’s a rather attractive green and I’d easily plant it all over my garden if the squirrels didn’t eat it, something about it always looked a bit unappetizing. I guess I was afraid that it would be intolerably bitter and tough to chew, so I continued to pass on by it at the grocery store. Such a bad silly habit to judge something from the outside.

I’m not a milk drinker and as I learn more and more about the lack of health benefits from animal protein (yes, found in milk), I try to limit my use of it. But I need calcium and I have osteoporosis in my family line, so it’s important that I get as much calcium as possible to strengthen my bones so I can walk like a supermodel in my 70’s and on, well, at least try to.

Dark leafy greens are the way to go. Not only are they full of anti-oxidants that empower your body to fight off cancer and strengthen your immune system, they are FULL of calcium. Luckily, I do enjoy a side of greens, such as spinach and broccoli, but I was ready to try something new.

So, it was time to learn a little more about kale. It’s a hardy vegetable, grown mostly in cooler climates withstanding frost and snow. I figured if it’s able to stay strong and even flourish from the cold winter months, it was important to imagine what it could do for my body. And, I do believe “you are what you eat”.

So after reading up on the benefits of this intimidating vegetable, I took the plunge and purchased a big bunch of Kale. The trick is to be creative with it, especially if you are going to encourage others easily disgusted by something that belongs in the “cabbage family” to eat it. I sautéed the kale in sesame oil to soften its tough texture and soak in the oils to neutralize its bitterness and gave it a little more bite by adding sesame seeds. I decided to accompany it with something sweet to complement its distinct taste. Golden raisins - a great addition to any culinary experience in the kitchen. After about 10 minutes, I threw in some pine nuts to add a good source of protein and provide the overall dish with a crunch.

It was delicious and my man loved it! So this side dish has become a part of our weekly menu.

Here’s the recipe:

1 bunch of chopped kale

2 tablespoons sesame oil

1-2 tablespoons of sesame seeds

1/3 cup of golden raisins

1/4 cup of pine nuts

8 cloves of garlic, chopped

salt & pepper to taste

Heat oil on medium to low heat. Add garlic and stir for 1 minute. Add kale and sprinkle salt & pepper, sauté for about 8 minutes, or until kale has softened to desired texture. Add raisins for another minute. Add pine nuts for one more minute. Remove from pan and serve.

I hope you try it!

Weight Loss through the use of Drugs.

It has been concluded by the Reports of recent studies that more and more people are getting obese and overweight every year. This is affecting not only the adults, but also teenagers and school going kids of both the sexes. This trend in not only the United States of America but also in most of developed and developing countries of the world.

A lot of factors cause this to happen such as genetics, overeating, the type of food taken into the body and as people age, the metabolism slows down making it harder than before to burn the food that was just consumed.

There are many ways to solve this problem. Some have decided to undergo surgery, while others have decided to change the dietary intake and exercise.

Since this takes time and most people can’t wait to get rid of the extra weight, these people have decided to take the fastest way out which is through the use of weight loss drugs.

In the 1950’s until the late 90’s, doctors prescribed drugs for weight loss. The drug works by increasing the serotonin levels in the brain that makes the brain believe that the stomach is already full and thus, increases the person’s metabolic rate.

It was only after scientists discovered that these drugs had side effects and were related to cause heart valve disease that these were taken off the shelves.

Later on, new drugs were developed and prescribed by doctors and many of which are still waiting for FDA approval.

Most people have known friends or family members who have tried using diet pills and have seen tremendous improvement. The idea that a simple drug can change everything without the need to change the diet or sacrificing anything is very tempting.

This has made consumers spend millions of dollars every year and has given drug companies a lot of money making and selling the drug.

Diet pills can be purchased either over-the-counter or prescribed by a doctor. Even with the advances in medical technology, these drugs can still cause a lot of health related problems which can be unpleasant such as diarrhea and vomiting, harmful such as tightness in the chest and urinary tract problems and fatal such as a heart attack or a stroke.

An overdose of the diet pills can cause tremors, confusion, hallucinations, shallow breathing, renal failure, heart attack and convulsions.

The side effects vary depending on the lifestyle and health of the person and can be minimized as long as one consults the doctor first before buying it.

Should one decide to stop using the drugs, studies have shown that there are also side effects. These include noticeable mood swings, hyper-activity, and pain in the stomach, insomnia and nightmares, severe irritability, extreme fatigue, depression, nausea, vomiting and trembling.

A lot of clinical tests will show that the drugs taken to lose weight really work. But this can only work if it is done with a low calorie diet and an exercise plan.

A good diet should have food from all the food groups. This should have vitamins, minerals and fiber. A lot can come from oats, rice, potatoes and cereals. The best still come from vegetables and fruits since these have phytochemicals, enzymes and micronutrients that are essential for a healthy diet.

A person can jog every morning or sign up and workout in a gym. Just like taking any medicine, one should first consult the doctor before undergoing any form of exercise.

The best exercise plan should have cardiovascular and weight training exercises. This helps burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase ones metabolism and lose weight….Read more. Go to Weight-Watch-Blog

Another reason to lose your love handles

There are tons of reason to lose your loves handles.  To score a date, fit into a pair of jeans, or just because they are unappealing.  According to a study in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine Journal there is a  direct correlation between waist circumference and decrease lung function.

Researchers have found that men with a waist circumference 40 inches or greater and women with a waist circumference 35 inches or greater suffered from decreased lung dysfunction regardless of body mass index.  Those with larger waists typical have more fat tissue which can increase the inflammatory processes in the body restricting your diaphragm and chest plate.

The bottom line is if you have those dreaded love handles, get your butt on an exercise routine.  Exercising adds years to your life and makes and improves your overall quality of life.  Not on an exercise routine?? Head over to my online training site to get customized workouts and nutrition plans.

Happy Mother's Day!

Start weight: 13st

Weight last week 12 st 5

Weight this week 12 st 2

Weight loss 3lb

Total loss 12 lb

Waist 33″

I cannot, cannot believe this!  I’ve nearly lost a whole stone - and 2 inches off the waist as well! The healthy eating is going really well - I’m still enjoying it, but able to relax on “difficult”  days and work round it,  and slowly discovering and sorting out the danger spots.  I missed my salsa this week, because I had a theatre trip with school that evening, but I’ve kept up the gardening, cycling to school, and finally got together with Dinah for a swim on Tuesday.  The weather has stayed glorious, which encourages the gardening and walking.  We had a belated birthday treat with Karen and Chris yesterday which was perfect: a walk along the cliffs from Beer to Branscombe, a cup of tea at the Sea Shanty, walk back via the undercliff and then lunch at the Anchor.  I even had a pint of beer, but what with the walk and the healthy lunch, I didn’t really go over my calories - much!

Here we all are (except Chris) enjoying ourselves on our 110th birthday walk.

Out Door Workout

One of the great things about doing body-weight exercises at home is the opportunity to work out outside when the weather is nice like today. It is 56°F and sunny today in Greenville, SC. My daughter and I put on some sweats, I know you northern folks are laughing at that but anything less that than sixty is cool for us southerners, and took our workout outside.

We did the Turbulence Training 6 Month Bodyweight Phase 1 Workout A, follow the link for the details. We both did three circuits. Her knee started hurting some on the second circuit so she stopped going so deep on the squats.

I sucked at planks and side planks today. My arms and shoulders were more tired than my abs. I hadn’t even done any arm work before the first set of planks. Maybe my arms were still tired from the Thursday’s workout. But my abs are really tight and sore now. They were already sore from the stability ball roll-outs and jack-knives early in the week. They are blitzed now.

I did 12 reps of rows the first set. I actually forgot how many I was supposed to do. I must admit that I cranked through the last 2 or 3 w/ poor form just to make that number. I really concentrated on my form in the last two sets.

Nothing else was super hard. I mean don’t get me wrong. I was blowing and huffing and puffing! Squats really get your cardiovascular system working. Especially if you breathe really deeply while doing them. Oh, let me be honest, I’m hating the jumping jacks! They should be easy, but I guess because I’m still so heavy - over 240 - they are not as easy as I remember them being when I was kid in gym class.

After the strength portion I did my intervals on our stationary bike. It’s an old fashioned fan type with handles that you pump as you pedal. I did a five minute warm up then 2 minutes at 8/10 intensity four times. In between those high intensity session I did active rest at 3/10 intensity for 2 minutes - 3 active rest sessions. I ended the session with a 5 minute cool down.

Training this intensly takes mental toughness. After the first time through a TT-style workout you know just how tough they are going to be, unless you’ve chose a level that is too easy for you. Thereafter it takes a certain level of grit and determination to keep working out like this because you know just how hard it’s going to be. You’ll want to quit. I just keep my goal in mind. I also challenge myself by asking What Would Serena Do? And when it’s really getting hard I begin to think about all the athletes that I respect for their prowess. I know they worked out just as hard and probably harder. I tell myself if they could do it, I can too. I even say what would Craig Ballantyne do? Then I push on through. So, what are you going to do?

An Herbalife recommendation for fibroids. I was recently able to provide assistance to a female customer and wanted to share it.

An Essential Supplement

Uterine fibroids, also known as myomas, leiomyomas, and fibromyomas, are swellings in the walls of the uterus; they are present in at least 20 per cent of women over the age of 30.  They are benign and in most cases cause no problems.  Many women are unaware of fibroids until discovered on a routine examination.  Usually several uterine fibroids are present, rather than just one.

Heavier periods can occur and very occasionally an individual fibroid can cause a firm swelling in the lower part of the abdomen. This may press on the bladder causing frequent urination or incontinence.  In extremely rare cases fibroids can require removal by surgery, but in most cases fibroids shrink and disappear after menopause.

Protease is responsible for digesting proteins in your food.  Protein is perhaps the most difficult substance to metabolize so protease is considered to be one of the most important enzymes that we have.  If the digestive process is incomplete, undigested protein can wind up in your circulatory system and other parts of your body.  As the protein foods break down the essential amino acids needed by the body are liberated.

Taking Proteolytic enzymes, such as Herbalife’s Aminogen can help to clean up your body by removing unwanted protein from your circulatory system.  This will help to clean up your blood stream and restore energy and balance.  One of the tricks of an invading organism is to wrap itself in a large protein shell that the body would view as “normal”.   Proteolytic enzymes have been used for a long time in various forms of therapy. Their use in medicine is gaining more and more attention; several clinical studies are indicating their benefits in oncology, inflammatory conditions, blood rheology control, and immune regulation.

Iron and Zinc enhance iron absorption.  This is important to supplement when heavy bleeding is present.  Herbalife’s Best Defense and Formula 2 Multivitamin are sources of these minerals.  Together these products provide essential Iron, Zinc, Vitamin A, and B Vitamins in antioxidant strength.   While red meat, poultry, fish, green leafy vegetables and citrus fruit are excellent sources of Iron and Zinc, and lean meats, wheat germ, liver, kidney, egg yolk, butter, whole milk and cod liver oil are food sources of the vitamins, a subset of these foods must be avoided because they increase the presence of estrogen that promotes the occurrence and growth of existing fibroids.  Dairy, eggs, red meat and fat are all estrogenic foods to avoid.  All others listed should be integrated into your diet to balance hormonal levels and regulate menstruation in partnership with Best Defense and Formula 2 Multivitamin.

Krill Oil is an essential fatty acid complex that is rich in phospholipids which makes it ideal for female health.  It is superior to standard fish oil as excellent essential fatty acids for stabilizing the mood, reducing inflammation and pain, and aiding in the regulation of estrogen and progesterone.  Tri-Shield  is an Herbalife proprietary formula with 100% pure Neptune Krill Oil.

Lycopene, may be able to reduce the size and incidence of fibroid tumors based on an animal study presented at the annual Experimental Biology meeting held in Washington D.C. in April, 2004.  Researchers from Firat University in Turkey, the University of Maryland and the Karmanos Cancer Institute at Wayne State University in Detroit supplemented the basic diet of Japanese quails with Lycopene.  After 10 months, the supplemented quails had fewer leiomyomas compared to a control group fed only the basic diet (10 percent versus 20 percent).  In addition, the average diameter of the tumors was significantly smaller in the supplemented groups. The size of the tumors in the group supplemented with 200 mg lycopene was also significantly smaller than those in the group supplemented with 100 mg, indicating a dose response effect of lycopene on the size of the tumors.  Lycopene is easier to absorb from cooked or processed tomatoes.  The best ways to get Lycopene into your diet are by eating tomatoes, salsa, spaghetti sauce or drinking tomato juice.  It also gives watermelon and pink grapefruit their red color so eat plenty of these freshly sliced or juiced.

Citrus bioflavanoids found in most citrus fruits, kiwi, bell peppers, dark greens, and most all berries are recommended widely to stem heavy bleeding by strengthening capillaries and promoting good blood circulation in the tense pelvic muscles. This has been borne out by many medical studies involving the usefulness of citrus bioflavonoids in a variety of bleeding problems.  Herbalife’s Garden 7 provides powerful Lycopene and citrus bioflavanoids.  Increasing dietary fiber reduces blood estrogen levels, one of the things that helps fibroids grow.  Fiber can also help to relieve constipation which affects nearly half of all women with fibroids.  Supplementing your diet with Garden7 and adding Active Fiber Complex to any beverage provides the soluble and non-soluble fiber and antioxidant solution to reduce the production of estrogen, restore hormonal balance, and shrink the diameter of tumors.  In addition to those foods mentioned, the pith of citrus fruits is a very efficacious food source of citrus bioflavonoids and should be consumed whether eaten along with the pulp and juice of oranges, grapefruits, or any citrus fruit or when blended into Herbalife Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix taken for healthy weight-management.

Weight should be kept within ideal range for your height.  Excess weight is linked to elevated estrogen levels.  The following herbs were included in a list of the most successful in combating the growth of uterine fibroids and taking part in supporting liver and glandular function while supplying the body with a sound array of nutrients and cleansing and detoxifying properties: licorice root, dandelion root, ginger root.  Soy products are also believed to combat fibroids.  These are all included in the list of ingredients in Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix.

High Impact Cycling Workout #9 - Fartlek

No, I didn’t make up a new word!  Fartlek is a form of training developed in Sweden decades ago.  It means “speedplay” and is an excellent form of aerobic exercise.  Fartlek will improve your aerobic endurance and your strength endurance (also known as muscle endurance, it is the ability to spin a relatively big gear for long periods of time).  The essence of Fartlek is random acceleration at unscheduled periods throughout your ride.  You just take off for a hard effort once in awhile and then spin easy to recover.  Fartlek is great for group rides.  Someone takes off and everyone else has to sprint to catch up.  You’ll get a great workout.  However, you can do this by yourself as well.  Click below to download the workout and as always, have fun!

A day in the life.

This post is going to be about what I eat today.

Last night at the Heartlink, Darlene gave us all a piece of the IsaDelight.  I ate it this morning.  It tasted pretty good, but have to say that the TruChocolate has a smoother taste…1pt. 8am

Oatmeal with all the fixin's

1 cup of oatmeal (2pts), 1 tsp of peanut butter (.5 pt), 2 tsp’s of brown sugar (.5pt)and 1/2 a banana(1pt).  4 points total. 845am.

Alex and I left to run some errands and were gone for several hours.  10am, 1/4 of a piece of string cheese, .5 pt.

12noon, 1/4 of a serving of veggie chips, .5 pt.

1250pm, hamburger from McDonalads, only mustard and 1/2 small order of fries.  Not my best choice, but out of the other options, I knew what the calories were for those items and all is well, 7.5 pts.

230pm, 1 cup of boxed, mac n cheese 8 pts….augh.(thanks Sarah)

415pm, 1/2 sweet potato, 1 tsp of brown sugar and 1/2 tsp of butter, 2.5 points

24 points, 7 points left over…I will have a veggie before church ~ and see if I can find a healthy snack ~ no more mac n cheese…I knew it would be “bad” ~ but I didnt figure the points before I ate it…big mistake.

On how vegetarians face great risk in their diet

If you are a vegetarian or recently converted to vegetarianism, we have some interesting new for you.

Read on…

Being Vegetarian:

You are a vegetarian because you believe that a food devoid of red meat and/or other animal products will give you a low-fat, high fibre content and a well balanced food. Also, ethical issues of animal cruelty, environmental problems due to animal farming and fear of foot and mouth disease, may have convinced to go vegan.

But did you know a vegetarian diet is almost devoid of a very important nutrient which helps in supply of energy to your body? That nutrient is called L-Carnitine.

But first let take a look at the risks and benefits of vegetarian diet.

Benefits of a Vegetarian diet
  • Lower intake of saturated fatty acids and cholesterol
  • High intake of Vitamins
  • Higher intake of anti-oxidants nutrients
  • Higher intakes of fibres
  • Higher intake of purines.
Risks of a Vegetarian Diet
  • Low consumption of L-Carnitine
  • Low than required consumption of Vitamin B12
  • Low iron consumption
  • Lower Zinc, Iodine and selenium consumption
  • Lower protein consumption & lower protein quantity of plant food.
What L-Carnitine does for you:

As we mentioned earlier, L-Carnitine plays a key role in providing energy in your body. It basically transports fatty acids into your body cells, burns it inside mitochondria (oxidation) and thus releases energy. This makes L-Carnitine the most natural ,effective and safest nutrient for fat burning and energy generation for your body.

Why should you consume L-Carnitine?

Though, a vegetarian diet can be a healthy choice and has various benefits, there are some nutritional risks associated with being a vegetarian. Animal products such as lamb, beef and pork contain the highest amount of dietary L- Carnitine. Lower levels of L-Carnitine are found in dairy products. In many plants foods, L-Carnitine level cannot be even detected.

Therefore other than the limited amount naturally produced by the body, strict vegetarians have negligible sources of this nutrients.

The best way source of L-Carnitine for vegetarians is by dietary supplements from non-animal based products to meet the nutritional requirements. BODYFUELZ FATBURNER contains the right dosage of natural L-Carnitine Facts & Benefits of L-Carnitine:
  • It is naturally made in your body but in limited quantity.
  • It is the natural approach to weight management
  • It is essential for a healthy heart
  • It boost immune function
  • Improves mental alertness
  • Good for skin texture and hair growth

Preventing Early Death from Heart Disease

Did you know changing diet and exercise habits can prevent 90% of heart disease?  What if there were 90% fewer people needing angioplasty or heart by-pass?  I guess there would be some cardiologists twiddling their thumbs but beyond that, think of the vibrancy these folks would have.  Heart disease is SO debilitating.  It exhausts the human body and makes the simple tasks of day to day living impossible (or at least more challenging and less enjoyable).

So what to do, what to do?  YOU know (but I’ll say it again)…

1) Lose that extra weight and keep it off!

2) Exercise regularly, get your heart rate up 3o minutes/day.

3) Get good fats (Omega 3 Fatty Acids) into your diet and PLEASE make sure they aren’t tainted with heavy metals.

4) Take in soy that has been properly processed (low temperature, washed in water, not alcohol).

5) Eat your veggies (and try to avoid lots of fats and cream sauces with your veggies)

6) Increase your fiber intake.  Here are some interesting facts on fiber:

  • Men should have about 30 grams of fiber each day, Women about 25 grams.
  • Most people get half (or less) of their recommended daily fiber allowance.
  • Fiber helps with weight loss because it promotes a feeling of fullness.
  • Fiber is found in high-nutrient, low fat foods (typically).
  • Fiber binds to cholesterol that you eat and escorts it out of your body so the cholesterol doesn’t have the opportunity to get into your arteries.
  • Look for darker grains, they tend to have more fiber and be more healthy (brown rice vs. white rice).
  • Watch the fat and sugar content on cereals, don’t add fiber at the expense of your blood sugar!

Each year $100 billion is spent on angioplasty and cardiac by-pass.  Isn’t that amazing?  How much would each of our insurance premiums go down if 90% fewer procedures were done?

How much would quality of life improve for those people who are currently on the fast track for heart disease if they made the changes necessary?

Are YOU at risk?

Here’s a little secret…we are all at risk.  Don’t think differently for a minute.
